Saturdays for seven years have been laundry at my house. You ask why, well I don't have my own washer and dry. We live in a condo and have to share a washer and dryer with five other family's but the real reason is they charge $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry them. I refuse to pay $3.00 for one load of laundry! That would be $18.00 a week, NO WAY!
God bless me with a much better way of getting my family's clothes clean for the week. We go to my in-laws house every Saturday to do laundry. We have my this into our family day. It is great because we are all together. Mackenzie and Brandon will grow up with great memories of spending Saturday's with Grandma & Papa. And I also believe that we are teaching Mackenzie and Brandon the importance of family.
This past Saturday while I was changing over one of the loads of laundry I started to have myself a little pity party. I was thinking why don't I live in a house with my own washer and dryer. Why do I have to come every Saturday to my in-laws house to do my family's laundry? It would be so much nicer of I could do a load every day instead of doing seven in one day!
Then the Lord spoke to me right where I was leaning over the washer pulling out the clothes. In that small voice I heard, be thankful for your condo that you call home. Be thankful that I provided another less expensive way to do your laundry. Be thankful for the seven loads that you are doing today because that means you have a husband that I gave you and two that I gave you. I have blessed with so many blessing, stop and be thankful.
Once I was done changing the laundry I prayed and asked for forgiveness. " Lord I am sorry for not being grateful for what you have given me. You have blessed me with a wonderful husband that leads our family in Your Word. You have blessed me with to amazing children. You are the one that has blessed our family with all the clothes that we wear to keep us warm this winter. Please forgive me for taking my eyes off of you and looking elsewhere to bring my happiness."
That night when we were back home from Grandma & Papa's house I started a new that I do while I put away the clean laundry, I pray for the clothes as I put them away. I thank the Lord for the clothes He has given to us, I pray for Justin, Mackenzie, Brandon and myself when I put our clothes away that we would honor the Lord every minute of the day. That we would be living out the will of the Father.
I have found that doing this has given me a new thankfulness about doing our laundry. I would urge you to try this at your house and see what God can teach you.
